Hello, My father, as a child or young man aquired two artifacts that I now have. One we all (my brothers and sisters) call a foot rock because it is shaped like a foot wihout the toes. Our best guess is that it possibly could have been used to make moccisons. (spelling) And the other one we are not sure about. it fits the hand like the pic above, but the other side has a hole in it, like another tool could have been used to crush something in it. In fact he also had a musket ball that fits in there perfectly, I would never part with them. they will eventually be passed down to someone in our family. but was curious to know if you had found anything like that. In the 1840's the Tuttles were in Grandville, Licking, Ohio. In the late 1840's they moved to Auburn, Fon du Lac, WI. Your article makes me wonder if maybe these were passed down through the family and with my father being born in WI, and spending time in Minnesota, maybe that's where he found the musket ball (which has absolutely nothing to do with the artifacts). I don't know. We should ask questions when we have a chance, because the day will come when they are gone and we can't ask.

This tool wss probably used for rubbing cooked brains through deer skin to make it soft when brain tanning. The bottom is not smooth enough for me to think it was used to crush anything.

this shows no signs of ware at all. all the striations on it run in random directions like any other ordinary stone.
why do you think that this was ever used as a tool??
